The 2016 CrossFit Burke Intramural Open and Friday Night Lights is here! We have five teams competing against each other for gym supremacy! Who’s banner will be raised to the rafters in 2016?
The CrossFit Open starts on February 25th and goes through March 28th! It is five weeks and five workouts of camaraderie, fun, and challenging workouts!
The Intramural Open is our way of making the CrossFit Open Games season more fun and bring our community closer together! We understand and hear you that the fun gets taken out of the Open once you fall into 10,000th place(that’s my usual finish). We want to put the fun back into the Open by creating five teams made up of all of our athletes who signed up for the Open. These five teams will compete in a fun, challenging six week tournament! The winning team will have it’s team banner raised to the rafters!
To compete in the CrossFit Intramural Open, you must be signed up for the CrossFit Open. It is how we aggregate and validate scores for each team. Sign-up for the CrossFit Open HERE! Use the Register button on the CrossFit Games page to start the process. The Affiliate name is CrossFit Burke. The Team name is CrossFit Burke. You must be signed up by February 7th and by the time we draft, to be eligible for the draft. Anyone who signs up after the draft is a free agent and will be picked up by a Team. Essentially, everyone who signs up for the Open will be on a team!
Friday Night Lights will start every Friday during the Open at 630pm. Athletes will pair up with another for scoring and judging purposes. After each athlete is done with their workout, we will have food and drinks(adult and non-adult beverages), to celebrate our successes and enjoy each other’s company. Our primary goal for the Open is to make it fun and bring the CrossFit Burke community closer together!
Each team will have it’s own t-shirt. Each t-shirt is $25. We encourage everyone to wear their t-shirts on Friday. After the draft, Team Captains will contact their team members for sizes. Payments will be made through your FrontDeskHQ account.
All profits of the t-shirts will go towards the The Truth365. The organization that gives voice to childhood cancer. Our members, the Murata Family and their daughter, Sadie, are fighting childhood cancer for a second time. The Truth 365 is their organization of choice for the profits of the t-shirts. We support them 100% in their fight and this is another great way to show our support!
Speaking of Team Captains! Here are your team captains and their team name:
Larry Moltzan: The Krispy Kreme Mafia
MK Mannon: Clean and Twerk
Ben Marrapodi: WOD Warriors
Jackie McCain: Mother Thrusters
Marco Chirinos: BurpeeNators
If there is a team you want to be on, let that captain know! Drafting is made easier when the team captains know they have a dedicated team lined up! Be sure to be signed up by February 7th, so your favorite Captain can draft you!
+1 Point – Attendance: every member of a team that completes an Open workout at CrossFit Burke each week earns one point. Maximum one point per athlete per workout. This goes for Rx AND Scaled competitors!
+1 Point – Top 3: every male AND female member who places among the Top 3 at CrossFit Burke for each workout (Rx only) gets an extra point for their team.
+5 Points (team) – Spirit: The team with the most noise, pride, and PRESENCE each week will receive 5 bonus points. Wear your Team T-shirt and Friday and really represent your team pride!
+5 Points (bonus) – 6th workout: see below.
The Open will have five workouts; we also have a BONUS workout planned, which will take place after the close of the CrossFit Games Open.
Our Open workouts will take place on Friday during all classes building to Friday Night Lights which will begin at 6:30 p.m. Friday Night Lights is a fun, community building atmosphere where we will be providing food and drink to all who attend. We want Friday Night Lights to be the catalyst for fun competition and camaraderie. We work out and then hangout and have a few adult beverages to celebrate how horrible the workout was. Friday Night Lights will be about two hours in length. My expectation is that everyone gets through their workout during the first hour. Anyone who is RX will be in the first heat or two. Everyone else will go afterwards.
Here is to the best Open season to date!
